For it’s price range, the UDI U818A is a pretty spectacular quad. There are a few areas that could be improved upon, but when you’re only spending around $50 for such a device, you really can’t be anything but impressed with how much has been put into the quadcopter at that price point. This quad is very lightweight and it’s easily manipulated by the wind, but this lends itself for a more on-hands experience. This is great for those looking for something that requires you to be a bit more active to keep the quad under control.
Features of the UDI U818A from Amazon
Despite being so lightweight, the UDI U818A isn’t afraid to take a beating. Even in the hands of most inexperienced quad user, this quadcopter is going to get through most flights without breaking a sweat. A standard charge will last around 7 to 9 minutes of flight time, whilst charging takes roughly 120 minutes.
Because the quad uses a 6 axis gyro with posture control, more experienced users will be able to get a much higher level of control out of this quadcopter. This is especially important for flying on those windy days when you need to put a lot more effort in to keep your flying on course.
- 6 axis gyro with posture control
- 4 channel function to provide stable flying and easy operation.
- High capacity battery (3.7V 500mAh battery.)
- Charging time is about 120 minutes whilst flight duration is about 7-9 minutes.
- Modular design for easy repairs
- Remote distance is 30 meters
- 1GB micro SD card included with camera
Pros and Cons
Even though the UDI U818A can be picked up from Amazon for around $50, it has enough control capability to rival more expensive quads. You’re really given a lot of potential with this quadcopter, and the included camera means that you’re instantly set up and ready to go as soon as it arrives at your door step. This quadcopter is also very well built so it manages to deal with crashes and collisions quite well. If you do happen to damage the quadcopter, it’s modular design makes it straight forward to fix.
There are even controls on the remote to flip this quadcopter which is pretty neat. This is just one of the many functions the remote is capable of. You are given some basic camera controls on the remote as well, although there is no live feed.
The camera quality isn’t that great but for it’s price range you can’t expect much more. You may also want to upgrade the microSD card as 1GB of storage will be used up incredibly quickly. One gripe we do have with this device is that the remote distance is only 30 meters but this is just one issue that can be looked past.

What is the UDI U818A Good for?
Whilst this quadcopter may not be as straight forward as some other beginner quads, it has more than enough controls to make it useful for beginners looking for something that offers a little more ‘active’ flying. The low price point of course makes it great for those on a budget, and it’s sturdy build and modular design means that damaging the quadcopter is hard and fixing it is easy.
